Out-of-School Time Forum

Council for Children’s Rights hosted “Expand Learning: Building a Framework for Out-of-School Time” on Friday, November 22, 2013, at the Beatties Ford branch of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library (2412 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte).

Out-of-school time is a unique space for learning and development – distinct from home and school – where children can engage in enriching experiences that broaden their horizons and build critical skills that support healthy development and lifelong success.

Opening remarks were presented by:
Dr. Heath Morrison
Superintendent, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools
Mr. Brian Collier
Senior Vice President, Foundation for the Carolinas
Ms. Emma Swift
Policy Analyst, Public School Forum of NC

The remainder of the agenda included both an overview of relevant research and an outline of the Out-of-School Time Framework with a focus on program quality standards.
