All through the month of November, CFCR explores the issue of poverty and its effects on children and families. What does it mean to be poor in Charlotte/Mecklenburg? What kind of options and hurdles do children from low-income families face. How big is the problem and what can we, as individuals and communities, do to change the lives of those caught in poverty’s grind. Our focus, based on information from the 2013 Census, look will look at the questions of how we define poverty, how we talk (or don’t) talk about it and the longer lasting implications poverty has for children.
Before we begin — here’s a quick snapshot of the state of Mecklenburg County children.
