MARCH 8, 2017: This morning, Republican and Democratic members of the North Carolina House and Senate gathered together in support of House Bill 280, The Juvenile Justice Reinvestment Act. The primary bill sponsor Rep. Chuck McGrady (R-Henderson Co.), along with NC Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Martin and others, spoke in support of the bill which would “raise the age” of juvenile court jurisdiction from 15 to 17. This bill has broad bipartisan support as well as support from the law enforcement, the courts, and business community. In introducing the bill, Rep Chuck McGrady stated, “We’re here today to reform our juvenile justice system….It’s the right thing to do.” This is an important step in the fight for juvenile justice and reform in our State! #raisetheage .
