INDIVIDUAL BEST INTEREST ADVOCACY

Martha is the single mother of her thirteen-year-old adopted son, Jason. Prior to being adopted by Martha, Jason suffered extreme neglect. Today, Jason suffers from reactive attachment disorder, among other developmental delays and behavioral problems. For years, Martha has fought for the mental health services that her son was entitled to by law, and for years she was ignored. Martha knew that if things didn't change soon, hopes for her son's future would continue to dim. With Jason’s Council for Children’s Rights best interest advocate by her side, Martha met with officials. Together they outlined a plan to help her son succeed. Now he receives the services he is entitled to, and Martha reports that Jason brought home an all A and B report card and has joined a scout troop.

Our Individual Best Interest Advocacy program helps 4,000 children like Jason every year. Our advocates are systems experts who work hard to assure that children receive the services — whether special education, mental health, or whatever service a particular child may need.
