Council for Children’s Rights board of directors show their support for HB 280.


May 17, 2017 — Today the North Carolina House passed legislation that would raise the age for juvenile jurisdiction for 16- and 17-year-olds who currently are automatically prosecuted for crimes as adults.

The “Raise the Age” legislation was passed with a strong bipartisan support of support on a vote of 104-8 f. Next, it will head to the Senate., where it faces a number of competing proposals.

With New York legislators passing legislation in April, North Carolina will soon become the only remaining state that automatically tries the teens as adults.
