Education Law Program (ELP)

Program Overview

Education Navigation for Court-Involved Students

Education Navigation supports students involved in the juvenile justice or child welfare systems facing educational challenges. The navigator conducts research and interviews to develop a written report intended to help a Child and Family Team understand and support their student’s educational needs and rights.

Education Advocacy for Individual Families

We accept community referrals from parents/legal guardians of students who have special education, Section 504, or school discipline-related issues and may be in need of legal representation in Mecklenburg and surrounding counties.

To request or learn more about this service, email GetHelp@cfcrights.org or call 704.943.9609.

Community Trainings

We offer free community trainings to community partners and parent groups.  Our trainings cover a range of topics related to education advocacy.

To request or learn more about trainings, email us or call 704.372.7961.

Systemic Education Advocacy

As a small team, we cannot individually assist every family that needs support with education advocacy. By devoting time to strategically elevating issues affecting some of our most vulnerable students, our work has a greater community impact.
